Key West Fishing 03-05-16

The cloudy waters around the reef have attracted plentiful sharks, including Blacktip Reef sharks and even trophy Hammerheads. On Friday Bill Wallace, while skippering a charter on our boat, the Outcast, reacted rapidly when he saw a huge Mako swimming in the chum slick. Shortly after setting up an angler with a superior rod, his client had hooked this gigantic 500-lb. predator.

Capt. Tony Miller, guided clients past the reef to the color change aboard our charter vessel, the Coolwater. The Blackfin Tuna have really reached a feeding frenzy in this area on the border of an eastbound current. Tony's anglers snagged plenty of Blackfins on Friday in addition to the sporadic Sailfish.

Even though air temps have been a little low this winter, the fishing has continued to be excellent. Sunday and Monday should see a shift towards warmer temperatures as the mercury rises into the 70's. With the arrival of spring weather, the Tarpon should begin to bite in Key West Harbor, and we'll be more than happy to lead you to them.

We look forward to seeing you in Key West,

Captain Chris Garcia
