Key West Fishing 03-19-16
With the approach of April, we've finally seen the temperatures climb in the Florida Keys. As the air and water warm up, the fish become even more active. This is a great time of year to try a number of excellent fishing choices, including prize Tarpon in Key West Harbor, Kingfish and Snapper at the reef, and Sailfish, Tuna, Wahoo, and Dolphin Fish off shore on the Atlantic side. If the winds are coming out of the south, our captains will venture into the Gulf for a morning charter. You will really enjoy fishing for Blackfin Tuna behind a shrimp boat. After a long night of shrimping, these boats collect a school of trailing Tuna, hungrily anticipating the dump of the bycatch.
Speaking of bycatch, our guides have seen some excellent results using cut shrimper trash as bait for Tarpon fishing in the Harbor. Our clients have been smiling from ear to ear as they hook mountable Tarpon, ranging from sixty to one hundred and twenty-five lbs. If you love to hunt these feisty game-fish, now is the time to book a Tarpon charter.
Now that we finally are enjoying spring temps, conditions are idyllic for deep sea fishing. The warm currents of the Gulf Stream have shifted to flow near the reef, attracting pelagic fish along with it. Mahi Mahi, Wahoo, Blackfin Tuna, and Sailfish have been biting near the color change at a depth of approximately 150 ft.
We look forward to seeing you in Key West,
Captain Chris Garcia
