Key West Fishing 03-23-16

Spring has finally arrived and temperatures have begun to rise, bringing the Tarpon into Key West's Harbor. While I'm logging this entry, Bill Wallace is captaining our vessel, the Outcast, on a Tarpon fishing trip and has one hooked. Our fishing parties have been hauling in trophy Tarpon weighing as much as one hundred and fifty lbs. The Tarpon swim into the Harbor through the deep channels. We set up along these routes with cut shrimp boat trash on five-o circle hooks attached to fifty lb. fluorocarbon leaders on thirty lb. test lines.

This morning, I guided an excursion out to the reef where my party snagged plentiful Bonita, Yellowtail Snapper, and a twenty-two-pound King Mackerel on a live Snapper.

Capt. Tony has led quite a few charters to fish for sharks in the saltwater flats, catching two and three hundred pound Nurse Sharks. Nurse Sharks and Lemon Sharks swarm the flats every spring in order to spawn. He's guiding an expedition to fish for the Blackfin Tuna who follow the shrimp trawlers in the Gulf.

This is also an excellent time to fish offshore for Sailfish who migrate past Key West every April.

We look forward to seeing you in Key West,

Captain Damon Santelli
