Key West Fishing 03-26-16
Down here in the Florida Keys, we have finally escaped from an unusually chilly winter to find perfect spring weather. The recent rise in temperatures has also increased the activity of the gamefish, including huge Tarpon in the channels of Key West Harbor, Snapper and Jacks at the wrecks and reefs, Lemon and Nurse Sharks in the flats, Tuna following shrimp boats in the Gulf, and Sailfish and Dorado at the Gulf Stream.
In the inshore saltwater flats of Key West, the captain of our craft, the Coolwater, Tony Miller, has seen some amazing results fishing for sharks. Lemons and Nurses weighing up to 300 lbs. have been swarming this area in order to spawn.
Capt. Wallace guided our vessel, the Outcast, on a very successful wreck fishing charter on Friday. In addition to bagging their limit of Yellowtail Snapper, the party also hauled in an 82-lb. Amberjack using a live Blue runner as bait.
On the Coolcast, I took a group fishing in the Key West Harbor to find monster Tarpon. We nabbed 3 of 4, weighing up to 120 lbs. We caught a few Permit as well.
If you are more interested in off-shore angling, this is the best time of year to fish for Sailfish in the Keys.
We look forward to seeing you in Key West,
Captain Chris Garcia
