Key West Fishing 04-16-16
We've witnessed an incredibly abundant Sailfish run to the south of Key West this spring. Unfortunately the peak of Sailfish season was interrupted for a few days this week by some rough weather conditions. The thirty-knot winds offshore created waves eclipsing nine feet, keeping all but the biggest yachts from heading offshore to fish for billfish. These turbulent conditions limited participation in the first couple days of the World Sailfish Tournament, yet more than four hundred Sailfish were hooked in only two days of competition. The forecast is showing much more favorable deep sea fishing conditions for the remainder of the weekend. After the winds dwindle tomorrow, we should see some great conditions for offshore angling for the remainder of the weekend. The water clarity in the Key west Harbor should also improve with the calm weather, increasing the chance of catching trophy Tarpon. Despite the cloudy waters in the harbor, Bill Wallace, skipper of our charter boat, the Coolwater, saw one of his clients land a trophy fish surpassing one hundred and thirty pounds.
We look forward to seeing you in Key West,
Captain Chris Garcia
